BBSA Majors TRYOUTS 2016

BBSA Majors Tryouts will be Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Simonds Lower beginning at 2:30pm.

If a player cannot attend Saturday, a second tryout will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 beginning at 4:30pm also at Simonds Lower.

All 11 year olds interested in playing Majors baseball next season must attend a tryout.

This tryout will give the players a better idea of how different Triple A is versus Majors. Majors is very competitive (The Top League in Ripken).

The benefit of kids repeating Triple A, is that it helps with their development and improvement over the long term progress of the player.

Majors is extremely competitive. It can be very discouraging for some players.

When signing up for the spring season, please consider the best option for your son or daughter.

All 2015 Managers & Coaches from Majors, Triple A and Double A must attend both sessions if you want to manage or coach the Majors in 2016. If you have any questions please contact Mike Hickey.

Ripken Major Championship

The Erland Construction Pirates met the Twins on Monday June 29 to play for the Ripken Major Championship at Joe Keohane Field. In a close pitching duel the Pirates edged the Twins three to two to claim the 2015 Championship title.

Ricky Vittum pitched the first three innings for the Pirates and retired the first eight batters with four strike outs. In the third walks to Drew McGowan and Mike Marchese brought up Nick Heisler who had a great district tournament. Heisler grounded up the middle for a sure hit but Ryan O'Halloran ranged over and was able to get the force at second to end the threat.

The Pirates scored all their runs in the first inning. Matt Pinkham walked to start the game against John Trowbridge. Jack Jay flied to deep center but Eshaan Datar made a nice catch for the first out. Ryan O'Halloran then singled to right moving Pinkham to third. O'Halloran promptly stole second, Ricky Vittum then reached on an error by the third baseman allowing Pinkham to score and he moved to second. Shane Mahoney then singled to right to score both O'Halloran and Vittum to put the Pirates up three to nothing after one. Trowbridge then settled down and struck out the side in the second for the Twins.  Heisler came on to pitch the third for the Twins. Pinkham singled to right and O'Halloran reached on a fielder's choice as Pinkham's speed allowed him to beat the throw to second. Vittum sacrificed both runners over but Heisler struck out the next batter to end the threat.

Joey Edwards, who has pitched great for the Pirates all year came on the pitch the fourth for the Pirates and struck out the first batter he faced. Trowbridge reached on an infield single and then with two outs, Eshaan Datar launched a bomb deep over the center field fence to narrow the Pirates lead to three to two. Edwards then struck out the next batter to end the inning. Heisler struck out five in a row in the fourth and fifth innings before Andrew Hickey reached on a beautiful bunt single down the first base line. Pinkham ended the inning with a force out a second.

Ryan O'Halloran then struck out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings to seal the victory for the Pirates.

Congratulations to both teams on a great game.

Members of the Champion Pirates are Joey Edwards, Andrew Hickey, Jack Jay, Nolan Kelleher, Anthony Lumenello, Keegan Mahoney, Shane Mahoney, Sean Malone, Ryan O'Halloran, Matt Pinkham and Ricky Vittum.
